1005- Assignment 3

Good Composition

  • Example #1

missy booWhen this photo was taken I can promise you that nothing was distressing my beautiful cat here. However, she is a prime example of texture in photos. In this picture you can definitely see all of the textures within it. Such as her fur and the carpet underneath her.  Just because she is cat I think shape is a key element. Shapes define things, so you can tell it’s a cat. By the triangle shaped ears or triangle shape of the nose. The picture is pretty simple, however it does show good proportion. The slight detail of having the cat toy in the back adds a lot of proportion. Because, that is actual size of the object. Lastly, there is an emphasis on my cat. There isn’t really anything else in the picture that your eyes go straight to.

This image is supposed to represent some type of wall art. I picked my favorite quote and used the style of typography to create it. I used color to help create an emphasis. I made the three most significant words a blue color to match the blue flowers on the sides. This also adds unity to  the “wall art” picture. How? Because it all ties together at the end. Unity is an important addition to many photos. Without it the picture could easy become a mess and hard to understand. By putting those words in a different color than the rest I was creating an contrast. Even though the contrast in this photo is a little insignificant it is definitely still there.

  • Example #3

treeeeeI understand that this photo looks like a fifth grade art project. However, that is about my level of ability. When drawing it I focused mostly on texture. I used a leaf and just traced it over and over again. This allowed for being able to see the actual design of the leaf. Other than focusing on texture I tried by very best to pay attention to color. By using fall colors I attempted to make it look a little less kid-ish and more realistic. In addition, I do think that there is some unity to the picture. I decide to add more color to the trunk of the tree using those fall colors again. Hopefully adding a sense of balance. I wanted to balance the picture so it wouldn’t feel so bare.
